It was only in 1965 that Valles placed an order with the Hakodate
shipyard in Japan for its first new building, the MV SILVER SHELTON.
The Silver Shelton was a 16000 dwt bulk carrier, classed with Bureau
Veritas. Since that time the "Silver" fore name has been
proprietary to Valles and there has always been at least one vessel
in the Valles fleet with the "Silver" or end with "BULKER"
and the oil tankers are generally named to begin with "SEA".
In 1967, Valles placed an order for its first new building outside
Japan, when a contract was signed with Taiwan Ship Building Corporation
now known as China Shipbuilding Corporation, Taiwan for the MV SILVER
CLIPPER a 27,000 dwt bulk carrier. This vessel was the largest vessel
to be built at that time in Taiwan or China and was designed by
Valles' in house team led by naval architect Mr. Ikeuchi. The vessel
proved to be very lucky for the Company and since then there has
always been a SILVER CLIPPER in the Valles fleet. The present SILVER
CLIPPER is a 151,000 dwt bulk carrier, coincidentally also built
by China Shipbuilding Corporation, Taiwan in 1993.
Valles and CSBC Taiwan have enjoyed many record breaking contracts,
the next of which was in 1973 when the Company placed an order for
the first panamax bulk carrier to be built in Taiwan, the 60000
dtwt bulk carrier, the MV HERCULES BULKER. This ship faithfully
served under the Valles flag for more than twenty years and was
only sold to Greek interests in 1994.
In 1972 the Groups founder, Mr. C. S. Koo, passed away leaving
Mr. K. M. Koo the sole beneficiary of his estate.
