In the meantime Valles was further building up on its close personal
relationship with the Japanese building families, in particular
with the Namura family's shipbuilding group, the Higaki's family's
Imabari Group and lately with the Tsuneishi Group's Kambara family.
In fact, Valles has been part of the history of these Groups and
it was a Valles ship, the 42,000 dwt MV FEDERAL BULKER, that in
1971 was the Namura shipyards largest vessels to that date. The
Federal Bulker too served faithfully under the Valles fleet and
was only sold after more than twenty-three years of service.
Also in 1971, the Group took delivery of the MV SEATRANSPORT from
Namura, a 16500 dwt modern bulk carrier with cranes.
It was once again with the Namura Group that Valles placed an order
for a series of three 37,000 dwt oil tankers, the first oil tankers
to be constructed by the shipyard and the first new building oil
tankers for the Company. These ships the MT SEASERVICE, MT SEABORNE
and MT SEASTAR were delivered to Valles over a period of time in
1972 and 1973. These vessels were chartered to the Mobil Oil Company
for ten years and were successfully operated in the harsh North
Sea environment. Whilst the Seaservice and Seaborne served all their
useful life under the Company's flag, the Seastar was sold in 1983.
In 1987 and 1988 the Company secured two long-term charters with
Navios Corporation of Stamford, USA. To service these contracts
the vessel purchased two high specification panamax bulk carriers,
the NAVIOS BULKER and the LUCKY BULKER.
In 1991, the Group took delivery of the MT SEAFALCON from Imabari
and it was the first new building to be registered under the Hong
Kong registry.
In 1995, Valles transferred its day to day operations to Vancouver,
Canada under Valles Steamship (Canada) Ltd.
